The Curvature of Space/Time by Lynne Lumsden Green

Dr Flann Weatherwax wouldn’t let anyone else test his time machine because it was unproven technology. He included an automatic return for his first trip, set for thirty seconds, and he had built his capsule to be durable.

What most people don’t realise is that time travel is also space travel; the Earth orbits our Sun and the galaxy at 230km per second. The capsule wasn’t designed for outer space; it wasn’t even vaguely airtight. The capsule disintegrated but the mechanism survived. Flann returned partially cooked, flash frozen, dehydrated, and with organs exploding out his orifices. And very, very dead.
