The Out-Of-This-World Experience for Writers
If you’ve ever wanted to travel out of this world and explore the great solar system that is out there for the young creative mind, now’s the chance! Well, kind of. Some of the world’s luckiest writers are going to get a chance to send their writing to the moon on the Peregrine Mission in the form of a time capsule. It’ll be the ultimate option for those who want their work to be immortalised throughout time.
Who are Writers on the Moon?
Unfortunately, it’s not a situation where writers will sit around in a critiquing circle and comment on each other’s writing, truly as part of an out of this world experience (yet). In this mission, set to lift off in the fall of 2021, writers will have their work featured on an SD card that will be part of a time capsule that is going to go up to the moon in the ultimate time capsule experience.
The whole point is to use this as a launching pad for the importance of writers when it comes to history, and making sure that their work can survive for years and years, just like the great civilisations did before us. Writers on the Moon is going to enable future civilisations and cultures to understand what our world was like so that we can be a noted part of history through literature.
By creating a card full of indie fiction from around the world, many hope that it will give everyone a chance to put their perspective into focus so that the readers of tomorrow will be able to understand a truly well-rounded perspective on what literature has been.
Top hits of the shortlist
One of the gems that will be included in the time capsule content by contributing author J.W. Garrett is Black Hare Press’s Storming Area 51, anthology published in 2019. An anthology depicting the “true” survivor stories of the Area 51 “storm”, this is a uniquely on-topic option for one of the most essential pieces that will be making its way to the moon. Since it’s about aliens and their interaction with us as human beings, it only makes sense that this is going to be designed for the future, right?
Now that Writers on the Moon have a shortlist of options for indie fiction works, the focus will be on banding
together to see it all come into being, and they’ve created a Facebook group to facilitate this. This group is a place that blends spectators with doers. Both writers who are included in the payload slots, as well as fans, wellwishers, and curious minds, can all come together and join in on the sheer potential for this exciting lunar experience.

Writers on the Moon is one of these projects that most of us see only once in a lifetime. By sending writing to the moon, we can help influence and educate future readers and writers that are looking to learn from some of the greats that came before them—just like we did with those that came before us!
