The Sea Remembers by Amanda Hoffman

The yellow life raft bobbed as Captain Sellis licked his weathered lips. He wouldn’t last another day at sea.

Through the fog ahead of him, a ship emerged.

“Help!” he croaked, waving his arms.

As the ship grew nearer, it grew … familiar.

Impossible. The Vardoger had sunk. He’d watched it disappear into the inky depths, the screams of his crewmates piercing the night.

The raft bumped against the ship’s hull and a frigid, bony hand reached out to grasp his. He looked up to find a pallid, sunken version of his own face staring back at him.

“Welcome home.”
